Font - Manager makes $1000 a week. Most of us are on Medicaid. One coworker is homeless. But manager still illegally participates in tip pool. What should I do? To make a very long story short, our manager participates in tip pool. My state law says its illegal even if she is on the floor because she is considered an employer and has power over us.

Font - One employee brought it up and didn't split her in so she threatened to fire him, but he quit because she didn't give him a break one day. We brought it up to higher ups. District manager said none of her other managers take tips but she's not sure about the law.

Font - Then my manager said "technically tips are a privilege so we don't have to let you guys take tips. I only take them when I'm on the floor" (not true. She will sit in her office for an hour and still split herself in.)

Font - I'm afraid if I bring it up to someone, she will take away tips for us. But it's messed up bc they haven't given us a raise in over a year, and she got a raise in December and she makes $1ka week while we're all struggling to pay bills and one of my coworkers is homeless. I think it's messed up. What should I do

Font - Snoo-745626 hr. ago Get another job. You're being taken for a fool. If you stick around you will have to fight for your tips. If you're sure it's illegal report it! 314 Reply Share

Font - der_innkeeper 3 hr. ago Organize a sit in. As soon as she splits in for tips on your next shift, just stop and sit, and have everyone else do the same. Beginning, middle, or end. Doesn't matter. Make a stink.

Font - mddnaa OP 2 hr. ago Ooh that would be fun. But the manager is always sitting playing games on her phone so she might not even notice. She is really bad at her job. Im shift leader and every time I come back from two days off, the store is a mess. We have no change. We're somehow out of every product. We got 3 bad customer reviews. It's ...insane

Font - Pawlewalnuts. 5 hr. ago Band together and make the complaint. Don't do it as an individual. Edit: You can do it as an individual, but there's power in numbers. 128 Reply Share

Font - mddnaa OP 5 hr. ago I keep trying to get my coworkers to do this with me bc they're all tired of it but I think they're too afraid of being retaliated against. The higher ups are pro gaslighters. I don't know how to motivate the crew

Font - hkf999 5 hr. ago Contact your local union or form one. The power imbalance between a worker and manager makes it impossible alone. Collective bargaining evens out the power imbalance. Especially with transparently illegal behaviour like that.

Font - mddnaa OP 4 hr. ago I want to but I don't think I could convince my coworkers to pay dues. My hr department is really good at gaslighting us too and I don't know if I can best them lol

Font - ImpossibleLoss1148 4 hr. ago Print out the labour laws and stick them up anonymously around the staff areas. Don't get caught and don't own up.
